Eligibility Criteria for NTA UGC NET June 2025

Candidates applying for the UGC NET June 2025 must meet the following eligibility requirements in terms of age limit and educational qualifications:

Age Limit

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):
    • Must not be more than 30 years as of 01.06.2025.
    • Age relaxation up to 5 years is provided to:
      • OBC-NCL (as per Central List – ncbc.nic.in)
      • SC/ST
      • PwD
      • Third Gender
      • Women applicants
  • Assistant Professor:
    • No upper age limit
  • Admission to Ph.D.:
    • No upper age limit

Educational Qualification

(a) Master’s Degree Holders:

  • General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates: Minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent from UGC-recognized universities/institutions.
  • OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender candidates: Minimum 50% marks (without rounding off).

Applicable disciplines include Humanities, Social Sciences (including languages), Computer Science, Applications, Electronic Science, etc.

(b) Final Year/Result Awaited Candidates:

  • Candidates pursuing or awaiting results of their Master’s degree (final year) or equivalent may also apply.
  • They will be provisionally admitted, subject to qualifying the exam and fulfilling eligibility at the time of final verification.

(c) 4-Year/8-Semester Bachelor’s Degree Holders:

  • Candidates with a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree must have at least 75% marks or equivalent grade.

Important Notes:

  • Those qualifying NET based on a four-year UG degree are eligible only for JRF and Ph.D. admission, not for Assistant Professor.
  • Candidates in the final semester/year of their 4-year UG program may also apply provisionally.
  • They must fulfill all eligibility requirements within:
    • 2 years (for JRF-qualified)
    • 1 year (for Ph.D. admission-qualified only) from the date of NET result declaration, or they will be disqualified.

(d) Subject Choice:

  • Candidates with a 4-year UG degree can appear in any subject listed in the official notification based on the subject in which they wish to pursue a Ph.D., regardless of their undergraduate specialization.
