Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University (KBVSASU) is a public state university located in Nalbari, Assam, India. Established in 2011 by the Government of Assam, the university is named after the 7th-century monarch Bhaskaravarman, a notable patron of Sanskrit scholarship and Vedic culture in ancient Kamarupa.

Eligibility Criteria for KBVSASU Admission 2025 |
Postgraduate (PG) Programmes
- Sanskrit Programmes
- Candidates must fulfill any one of the following criteria:
- Graduate with Major/Honours in Sanskrit securing at least 40% marks from any recognized university.
- Graduate with Sanskrit as a subject in pass course with a minimum of 40% marks from any recognized university.
- Qualified Shastri examination (equivalent to a bachelor’s degree) from any recognized university.
- Any graduate with basic knowledge of Sanskrit securing at least 40% marks from any recognized university.
- Candidates must fulfill any one of the following criteria:
- School of Humanities
- Graduate with Major/Honours in the concerned subject, securing at least 40% marks from any recognized university.
- Note: Candidates who have appeared/are appearing in the UG Final Semester Examination are eligible to apply, subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria at the time of admission.
Ph.D. Programme
Candidates must fulfill all of the following criteria:
- Postgraduate degree in the relevant subject from any recognized university.
- Minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in the concerned subject.
- Relaxation of 5% marks for:
- SC/ST
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)
- Differently Abled (≥ 40% disability)
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS)
- Candidates who have appeared/are appearing in the PG Final Semester Examination are eligible to apply, subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria at the time of admission.
- Applicants who are in service (permanent/temporary/part-time) must produce a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer, stating that leave will be granted for the course work duration, if selected.
Important Notes for Ph.D. Admission
- All Ph.D. aspirants must appear in KBVRET-2025, the central screening test for Ph.D. admission.
Exemptions from KBVRET-2025:
- JRF awardees, candidates with equivalent fellowships, and eligible international students are exempted.
- Exempted candidates must undergo counseling to be considered for admission.
- Exemption is valid only once. If an exempted candidate skips counseling, they will lose the right to exemption in the future.
- Final admission of exempted applicants is limited to 50% of total intake.
Reservation Policy
- Reservation will be as per Assam Government rules.
- Caste Certificate must be issued by the competent authority under the Government of Assam.
- UR-EWS Category:
- Benefit available upon submission of Income and Asset Certificate from a competent authority.
- EWS seats will be allocated based on the departmental intake capacity.
- Person with Disability (PwD)
- 3% of total seats are reserved for PwD candidates as per University rules.
- Applicable to candidates who are:
- Visually Impaired
- Hearing Impaired
- Orthopedically Handicapped
- Required Documents:
- A self-attested copy of Disability Certificate issued by the District Chief Medical Officer/Medical Board.
- The certificate must clearly state:
- The percentage of disability
- The minimum disability must be 40% to avail reservation benefits.
- Extracurricular Activities Quota
- 1% of seats (within the intake capacity) may be offered by the concerned department for admission into UG/PG programmes to candidates who have shown exceptional proficiency in extracurricular activities over the last three years.
- Eligible Activities Include:
- Cultural
- Sports
- NCC
- Scouts & Guides
- Required Documents:
- Valid certificates and supporting documents proving active and notable participation in extracurricular activities.
- The activity must be conducted by an association recognized and affiliated with the national body for that sport or event.
Application Processing Fee
Applicants must pay the following non-refundable processing fees only through the Payment Gateway available on the application portal at the time of form submission:
For KBVRET-2025 (Ph.D. Entrance Test):
₹ 1200/- (Rupees One Thousand Two Hundred only)
For KBVPGET-2025 (PG Entrance Test):
₹ 600/- (Rupees Six Hundred only)
