Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the official notification for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2026 for admission into Class VI for the academic session 2026–27. Students of Assam who wish to study in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) must appear for this entrance examination.
Established under the National Policy on Education, 1986, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are a network of fully residential, co-educational schools administered by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. These schools aim to provide quality education to talented children predominantly from rural areas.
Currently, JNVs are functional across 27 States and 8 Union Territories of India, offering free education, boarding, lodging, uniforms, textbooks, and other essentials to students from Class VI to XII.

Assam JNV Admission 2026 – Eligibility Criteria for Class 6 |
Students seeking admission into Class VI in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) of Assam through the JNV Selection Test 2026 (JNVST 2026) must fulfill the following eligibility conditions:
Geographical Eligibility
- The candidate must be studying in Class V in a Government/Government-aided/recognized school or under NIOS ‘B’ Certificate course during the 2025–26 academic session in the same district where they seek admission.
- Only bonafide residents of the district where the JNV is located are eligible to apply.
Age Limit
- The candidate must be born between 1st May 2013 and 31st July 2015 (both dates inclusive).
- This age limit applies to all categories including SC, ST, and OBC candidates.
Educational Qualification
- The candidate must be studying in Class V during the full academic session 2025–26 in a:
- Government School,
- Government-aided School,
- Recognized Private School, or
- Under the ‘B’ Certificate competency course of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) in the same district.
Number of Attempts
- Only one attempt is allowed. A candidate is not eligible to appear for the selection test more than once under any circumstances.
Rural Quota
- Minimum 75% of the seats in a district are reserved for candidates from rural areas.
- Remaining 25% seats are open to both rural and urban candidates on a merit basis, following the reservation policy.
- To be eligible under the Rural Quota, the candidate must:
- Have studied in Classes III, IV, and V in a Government/Government-aided/recognized school located in rural areas, and
- Be studying full academic session of Class V in a rural area school in the same district where admission is being sought.

Step-by-Step Guide to Apply Online
Follow the steps below to complete the online registration for Class 6 admission into JNVs of Assam:
- Scroll down to the Important Web-Links section (available on the official admission page).
- Click on the link titled “Online Application Form”.
- A new page will appear. Tick the checkbox “Have you read the prospectus?” and then click on “Proceed”.
- The online application form will now open.
- Fill in all required details carefully, including personal, academic, and residential information.
- In the Upload Document section, upload the necessary documents (e.g., photograph, signature, certificate formats, etc.) as per instructions.
- Click on “Save & Preview” to review the entered details.
- If everything is correct, click on “Submit Application”.
- Upon successful submission, a Registration Number and Acknowledgment Receipt will be generated.
- Download and keep a copy of the acknowledgment and registration number for future reference.
